Founding the Colony
Fully claustral — standard honeypot founding. Keep the queen undisturbed in a dark test tube with a water reservoir until her first workers emerge. No feeding is needed during this stage.
Feeding
Keep nectar or sugar water available at all times for the repletes to store, and add protein regularly (fruit flies, small insects, mealworm pieces) to drive brood growth.
Heating & Setup
Warm and dry, around 78–86°F over a gradient. Provide a surface the repletes can hang from. Semirufus forages mostly at night, so dim observation is best.
Growth & What to Expect
Slow during founding, then steady. An understated but rewarding honeypot — a great representative of the genus with all the replete behavior keepers love.
